Introducing UnionX Organizing

UnionX Organizing started with a very practical question from a union organizing team:

How do we take hundreds of spreadsheets and turn them into one usable crew list?

At first, it sounded like an Excel problem. But the more we listened, the clearer it became that the spreadsheets were not really spreadsheets. They were field forms. Each one captured information about an individual worker, completed by organizers under pressure, then submitted back so the team could piece together a picture of the campaign.

The drive was already moving. Timelines were tight. The organizers needed something better than scattered files, manual consolidation, and crossed fingers.

That became the first version of UnionX Organizing.

Built from the work, not from a sales deck

As the platform evolved, so did our understanding of what organizing teams actually need.

A crew list cannot just be a list of names. It needs to show who the workers are, how to reach them, whether they are current employees, what their status is, and what has happened so far.

Outreach cannot live in someone’s notebook. Teams need to know who contacted a worker, what was discussed, what follow-up is needed, and whether that worker needs a call, a text, a visit, or space.

Some workers are supportive. Some are undecided. Some are hostile. That context matters, especially when teams are sending campaign-wide communications or coordinating organizers in the field.

Cards cannot be treated like loose paper until filing day. Teams need to know who has signed, whether a card has been verified, whether it is expired, whether it needs approval, and whether it can be relied on when the campaign reaches the board.

UnionX Organizing was shaped around those realities.

What UnionX Organizing helps teams do

UnionX Organizing gives organizing teams a purpose-built place to manage the drive from the first crew list through filing preparation.

Teams can track workers, organize campaign outreach, manage digital card signing, monitor card status, record notes and touch points, send campaign messages, and maintain a history of activity tied to the drive.

Why this work matters

This has been some of the most meaningful work we have done.

Supporting the labour movement is not abstract for us. Helping workers get the representation they need makes the work feel real. It matters when a tool helps an organizer reach more workers, build more trust, sign more cards, and move a campaign closer to certification.

That is the purpose behind UnionX Organizing.
